Tui na

Tui na is a form of massage that utilizes the Chinese medical theory of acupuncture points and meridians to treat a multitude of ailments. Specific spots on the body are stimulated by massage rather than by needles. One particular characteristic of  Tui na is the hand rolling technique used and its vigorous, moving nature. By utilizing acupuncture channel theory, massage can release tension in parts of the body without ever touching that particular part of the body. For example, there is an acupuncture point on the outside of the ankle that has the wonderful effect of releasing tension from the base of the skull when rubbed or needled.

Tui na is a great alternative to acupuncture for needle phobic patients. It is also fantastic in combination with acupuncture. I have often needled that ankle point and then massaged the base of the skull for a very effective result. Part of my acupuncture training included several Tui na classes. But, since I loved it so much, I took many additional classes, which certified me as a massage therapist as well. I enjoy combining the two practices to help patients receive the best possible results.

Calm Spirit Acupuncture offers one-hour combination treatments of Acupuncture & Tui na or Tui na massage alone.
